A few reasons:
1. A lot of people make a lot more money than you do.
2. A lot of people spend more time in a car than you do.
3. Sadly, $40k isn’t that much for a car nowadays.
4. I wouldn’t want to even look at the sub-$40k options for a vehicle that can move an entire family with a bunch of kids.

my standard response is who cares if it's a depreciating asset if it brings you happiness and/or utility?
