My first BYU game was standing in the end zone—there was end zone standing room—
with my dad watching us play against Wyoming. We had won the WAC the year before and had high hopes with BYU's first notable passing quarterback. Wyoming swept around the end, running and running towards us until finally knocked out of bounds. They did this throughout the game and BYU seemingly had no answer. BYU was down 26-8 late in the game and fans were calling for Virgil to get us back . Carter had a bad game, too. The final was 47-14.
Lavell Edwards was an assistant to Coach Tommy Hudspeth. Wyoming went 10-1 that year and BYU went 8-2.
