Here are three reasons:
1. Wyoming is like Utah State in that each was bigger on the national stage before LaVell Edwards took BYU past them and they both faded.
2. There are religious issues with the church having a sizable presence mixed in the with hard charging hard partying cowboy and oil worker types.
3. The Black 14 (though it was Wyoming’s coach that kicked players off his team and nothing BYU asked for at all).
4. Bonus #4 which is sort of a mix of 1 and 4. Old timers blame the Black 14 thing for the downfall of Wyoming never getting back to where it was on the national stage. And now BYU is in a P4 conference.
