they are leaving. So it just comes pretty easily. I didn't think this would be a controversial topic but I guess people are ok with going scorched earth on everyone around them when they leave without any introspection? I learn new things every day.

You read it wrong. Exit interviews are simple. Usually just a few questions.

Yes it goes both ways, and I try to do that. But many managers have the same issue. It's a human issue.
