Thanks for sharing. I have a 21-year-old son who is on the spectrum & is also
high-functioning. So many similarities to what you mentioned in your post. Extremely intelligent, a great conversationalist, kind and compassionate. But he struggles mightily with maintaining a schedule, holding a job, or consistency in his life.

It's honestly been one of the hardest trials of my life to see this son who I love so much struggle so much. He's struggled with severe anxiety and depression and many social anxieties. I've been especially discouraged today about his situation, and your post has helped me quite a bit, thank you.

We didn't really get a diagnosis or have a clue that he was on the spectrum until about 4 years ago. It explained so much about the struggles we had with him when he was younger; things like oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and shutting down emotionally, with particular susceptibility to over-stimulation with noise.

I've learned so much in the past few years and have, with the Lord's help, been able to understand him better and adjust my expectations about his abilities and limitations.

Bless all of you who have this challenge as part of your family life.
