Homes are expensive, because they are dramatically larger than averages 20, 40,

60 years ago and there are significantly more people trying to buy homes in prime locations. That has nothing to do with issues caused by previous generations. Home prices are very comparable, maybe slightly higher, because of population increase, per square foot per average wage.
