100%. Nearly all players need to see sport as vehicle to something else.

I see intrinsic value in playing a sport at such a high level. At some point, though, you need to start planning beyond playing. I see zero problem or shame at all with deciding to get ready for life out side of your sport while you still have opportunities to play.
