So is it inexperience then, or talent?
Every team deals with injuries and BYU has lost it's starting QB at some point 5 of the last 6 years. Magnum was better as a frosh, though he had some lucky breaks. Christian Stewart had a stellar season in place of Taysom and he was unheralded and lightly recruited. so in reality we had a walk on QB for just over half a game, and Critchlow got garbage time. All the other snaps were Magnum or Hoge and Hoge played very well against Utah State minus one ill advised throw.

RB's are what we have always had. Ula and Squally are two of the higher rated RB's we have landed and the only way the true frosh argument comes into play is he is still not in total game shape. J-Dubb excelled as a true frosh and is also an example (Like Hoffman and Tejan) of 2 star gems discoved by the prior staff. The position is not devoid of talent.

O-Line, you realize everyone in this group has started or gotten a large volume of reps for 2 or more seasons except one spot right? They were adequate the 3 season before this and while depth is an issue, the position hasn't been decimated by an unusually high amount of injuries. Yes Williams made them look good at times, but you don't see the same patience and vision this year from the RB's either, part of that is coaching and part of that is scheme, as the blocking is more fire vs. bucket step on zone plays.

WRs - Again, pretty standard BYU group, we have a 4 star, a couple of 3's and a bunch of possession guys, talent down a little, but again, we have won with groups like this before that know how to get open. I will grant you inexperience here and that does matter, but coaching can pick that up and as good as he was as a player, Cahoon has not really translated that to coaching. Holliday was better. Bushman would start for a lot of programs as a true freshman, he will play on Sundays.

Yes we miss Hill and Williams, but if you are saying that what was waiting in the wings is not talented enough to crack 10 points a game, I don't know what to tell you. Inexperience is a factor, but we are 6 games in now, so even that argument is losing steam. And true freshman starting means that player is good, LSU had a bunch and it is very rare that any school doesn't have at least a couple that start or get serious PT.

And your argument doesn't hold up for the defensive side at all, where we have both talent and experience back at most of the positions. PSU hung around for 3 quarters with us and have gotten blown out by two of their three FCS opponents. Are you telling me UC Davis has more talent than us? The biggest issue on this team right now is culture and an inexperienced staff that has not been able to adjust and guide the team through adversity.
