That's what attorneys do, but the facts of the case are only part of the issue here, the main issue was your apparent belief that you trying to make money from personal tragedy is somehow justifiable while doctors, hospitals, insurance companies, etc trying not to lose a bunch of money to a lawsuit is reprehensible.

As for the situation itself, the guy was old, had suffered a stroke, was in ill health, was going to cost either the family or the government large sums of money to care for him for the duration of his life, so I'm not buying that anyone suffered much financial loss from what happened, it probably saved money in the long term. But I'm also not opposed to reasonable reparations, like say his few days medical care paid for, maybe funeral and burial costs but I see absolutely no reason for anyone, the family or yourself, to walk away with cash. For what? And yes his care was pawned off on the government, that's what the va is, government healthcare for veterans. He was there so that the family didn't personally have to pay a private hospital or care giver.

For the record I do not begrudge veterans that care but let's not pretend it is something it is not.
