Seems highly doubtful. Not that they didn't pull the scholarship, but that any of this was out of the blue. He
hadn't been able to stay (much less get) on the field for more than a game or two for several years. Much of this came from him and his own internal mental struggles, as he has publicly admitted on several occasions. I highly doubt that he was surprised by any action taken by the coaches.
