Acknowledgement of the increased intensity in big games and the need for some adjustments to start those games.
Change up the game plan/play calling to throw the D off balance and keep the O as the aggressor. This takes the edge away from the D and puts momentum on your side.
Stakes are higher in November. Teams have a whole season of film and are coming out with their hair on fire which allows them to play beyond themselves. Asking college players to execute perfectly under those conditions is a big ask. You can help them with play calling and game plan.
Avoid complacency and motivate the team by giving them something new and exciting to incorporate into the plan.
Quicker adjustments to wrinkles the other team puts in. When highly ranked, always going to get the other teams very best game. This includes wrinkles. The other team is preparing like it’s a bowl game. BYU needs to do the same.
Have added plays to better attack what the other team is doing. IMO, much much more could have been done to attack what Utah was doing with their blitz.
Still happy about 10-2 but it’s sad because BYU has a great team and should be in the playoff. Would have been awesome to see what they could do there.
BYU controlled their destiny. Where was the killer instinct to just go take it when they had the chance?
