He got put in a really tough situation as BYU needed to really recruit the DL to transition to a 4 man front but was undercut by a disastrous 2017 season (largely not Tuiaki’s fault) that left recruits worried about the future of the program. The one really great DE recruit he had before 2017 had a season ending injury. Then he also had to coach the whole DL by himself as they took away a defensive assistant coach spot. That just wasn’t going to work out well.
I thought the rush 3 drop 8 sorta made sense as a gap scheme but he needed to do something different. Of course I’m not sure how much Lamb shares in the blame either.
