This is one of the major problems with this society. Everyone is all concerned with the rights and privileges of the offender while the victim is all but an afterthought. That is TOTALLY BACKWARDS from what should be done. What should be done is to make the victim whole to the maximum extent possible and teach the offender that they REALLY don't want to EVER pay that kind of price again. If we punished offenders much more harshly, we'd have fewer of them and thus fewer victims.

Singapore CANES criminals who commit violent assaults. Their criminal recidivism rate is less than one-quarter of ours.
