Let's assume Morgan Scalley offers Jay Hill as DC.
Let's go ahead and further assume that Jay Hill would prefer to be at Utah, for whatever reason, doesn't really matter for the hypothetical
- maybe because he played/coached there
- maybe they pay more
- maybe he likes the culture or Scalley more
- maybe he worries about job security after a rough season at BYU
So.... that would (in theory) leaves us two options
- Fire Kalani and promote Jay Hill to HC ....
- ...or lose Jay Hill as DC to Utah
But if we're not ready to pursue Option 1, I don't think Option 2 is a bad thing. Because if we later DO decide to move on from Kalani, it's not like Jay Hill will be unavailable. If he prefers the BYU HC job to the Utah DC role, that'll still be true a few years down the line.
If anything, he'll get a broader range of experience.
Honestly I wouldn't be shocked if this is how it played out, that Hill is the next BYU head coach....but has a stint at Utah between now and then
