I think the confusion comes when people assume that because a player lifts his pivot foot...
...and at that point is standing only on the non-pivot foot (and may even be rotating on the non-pivot foot), that you must've "switched" your pivot foot. This is not true. It's kind of counter-intuitive, so easy to confuse. Until you return your established pivot foot to the ground after lifting it, it is still your pivot foot.
