He was quoted today saying he was told by one NFL team that they were going to
take him as the # 1 pick in that draft. But, he signed with The USFL first. I met Steve at a roast of LaVell Edwards in Los Angeles right after the NC win in 1984.
USFL had just folded. His future was up in the air. He was kind and gracious and mingled with guests for chit chat waiting for the event to start.
