...wow, where do I even start, haha--
"...I find these statements absurd."
...but is it really that absurd?
I can name off at least 8+ starting/high profile LDS QB's off the top of my head that Arod whiffed on:
Jaxon Dart - one of the top, most explosive QBs in all of CFB, possibly playing in the CFP
Sam Leavitt - promise he's showing as a RS FR is incredible, likely playing in the CFP
Nico Iamaleava - likely playing in the CFP
Isaac Wilson - easy to discount him now after his rough FR season, but he will end up better than anything BYU has on roster currently
Maddux Madson - prob getting a bye first round in the College Football Playoff
Devin Brown - Waiting for his moment at Ohio State, prob was a poor decision for him not to transfer 2 seasons ago
Will Hammond - One of the top HS QBs statistically in state of Texas his SR season, no offer from BYU
Ryder Lyons... will Arod whiff on this 5* LDS QB as well?
So, potentially 4 LDS starting QB's out of the 12 teams that will be playing in the CFP playoff. Sad situation for BYU.
*Verdict*- your statement is clearly absurd
"...On the other hand he identified Retzlaff when literally NO ONE considered him worthwhile. Whine all you want that Retzlaff didn’t single handedly carry us into the CCP and CFP, the dude was a MAJOR find."
Retzlaff is 60th rated QB out of 134 teams. Literally every statistic points to him being nothing more than an average QB that plays hard and has a big heart. He has been a fun story to follow this year, but he has hit his ceiling.
Hard truths: he has a significantly below average completion percentage sub 60%, terrible TD to Int ratio, Fumbles a ton, very inaccurate passer beyond 20 yds, has bad reads, locks on to single receivers missing wide open guys, etc.
Yes, he has improved since last year... but had he kept on playing the way he did last season, he would have never seen the field again in his career. So, his improvement took him from a bench player, to an average game manager type QB at best. He would only be considered a "Major Find" by someone without any other options to turn to. Again, pointing to Arod's ineptitude in recruiting ...and you being fine with mediocrity.
"...Do we HAVE to have those players to win in the Big 12? Clearly no! See this year.."
Bro, I don't know if you have been living under a rock over the past few days, but BYU DIDNT win the B12, and it was directly a result of poor OC play calling (interceptions during key moments vs Kansas and ASU and coming out flat due to lack of preperation) to a statistically average QB (...the "best" Arod was able to get)
"...That looks like the result of a FANTASTIC recruiting performance to me!"
I throw you in with the "...I'm fine with mediocrity, let's go try hard again next year" ...crowd
