Tell her you need to take care of your son and that you are going to put that

money in a college investment fund for him. I'd tell her if she can earn the money then she can do it. Ask her how much time it would be for her to work and save up $5,000? Or do reverse psychology and tell her you are going to use the $5,000 for bucket list items.
