As a Freshman at BYU - University Villas with 4 of us sharing apt 2 per bedroom.
Most walked everywhere or bummed rides. Shopped at Reams discount grocery. Ate in most meals. Hung out a lot Vs dating.
I played in a band, taught guitar lessons, had an arrangement with a music store to sell guitars and amps on consignment, worked weekends - pumping gas - married after 1st semester - 2 kids when I graduated. Mostly stay at home wife. Scholarship.
That got me graduated from BYU in 3 years and off to u for MBA since there were no jobs. Gas prices went through the roof. OPEC. Bars quit having live music. Recession. Took out a student loan of $350 to get graduated. Top 3 in my class. Got a job instead of taking teaching fellowship at UCLA PHD program. Didn’t want to borrow all of that money. Not sure if I could have even gotten those loans.
Starving Student approach - it is a forgotten art.
