This has been my issue with our defensive approach, and I argued as much earlier
I feel like we’ve over relied on statistical analysis, as you stated. I’ve said on record that I wish we would contest players more on the perimeter instead of outright daring them to shoot open shots.

When you afford players easier shots than their opposition has been doing, it shouldn’t come as a shock when they make more of those shots. And as basically every color commentator and former player who covers our games seems to opine, once you let a guy get in rhythm and gain confidence, it changes his shooting for the better.

I get where Young at all have been coming from, I just think we may have leaned into analyzing shooting percentages a bit too heavily. Young’s lack of excuse making and accountability post game was refreshing. I have hope that we will take an objective look at our season and find ways to tighten up our perimeter D in the coming year. In what was a great team performance, defending the three point line was not a positive and is ultimately what bounced us from the tournament.
