This is exactly right. He’s talked about being too rigid with sticking to the
gameplan against other teams previously too.
I think this is one adjustment from NBa to college and from a playoff series to a one game tourney, from a 48 minute game to 40, from 82 games to 35 etc: in college sometimes the games and sample sizes are short enough that the data doesn’t revert to the mean.
This is one adjustment he will have to make before next year: not being so locked in to the data-centric gameplan.
