So let’s say he is the 8th pick this year
You want him to take a $4 million dollar pay cut to come back with no future security, not even factoring in he will be guaranteed at least $10 million over 2 seasons and most likely with the team options $22 million over the next 4 years.

Your premise is based on the fact that he is going to have some long NBA career, where in fact anything could happen from injury, lack skill development, etc. that shortens that time dramatically. Heaven forbid he came back and had a season ending injury and cut his future earning potential by 90% and gave up future financial security to do so. With sports, everything can be taken away from an athlete in a blink of an eye, you have to take advantage when the cards and odds are stacked in your favor. It would be great if he came back selfishly, but its a no brainer for his future to leave and be a lotto pick.
