Yes and no, I think
My point about recruiting a guy like Wahlin is precisely that BYU should NOT be desperate about their roster line-up even for next season. Not even looking at the 5 returners noted who are upperclassmen, they already have 5 top-150 players on the roster for next year. Not all of them have NBA potential, but my guess is Dybantsa, Mboup, and Staton all flash that potential.

BYU is like any other team. They need solid, good basketball players who are glue guys, who are NOT all top-flight NBA draft types. Wahlin is that type.

And, Wahlin is just a soph this year. He will just get better. He's got length, good ball skills, shooting ability - he's exactly the type of developing upperclassman BYU needs, and he is not a challenge to fit with the BYU culture. Kevin Young has already stated that they've shifted their recruiting to be more selective and make sure the players they recruit are a good culture fit for BYU.

BYU will have others available to them, of course, but I see no problem with Wahlin as a portal pickup if we were to get him. Good player.
