I'm sorry, but you are flat out wrong.
Anyone who told you to automatically throw a shovel pass is 100% wrong. Here is the still from the game, Retzlaff looked at Swanson for about a second before he threw it just like you would on a screen pass. It is quite clear that the defender was going to disrupt the play and gets his hand in Swanson's face before the ball gets there. Swanson had no chance. Having coached this play and playing college football myself I can 100% without a doubt tell you no offensive coordinator has ever told a QB to throw it no matter what whether it is open or not. They say if it is at all covered then eat the football. You are 100% wrong. Sorry. If you played college football and believe it is a 100% throw regardless of situation then I pity your team and coaches.
