to speak. Think about the past few months for them:
1. They wanted to stay in their cherished Pac 12, but got relegated to the “lowly” Big 12. “Fine, we’ll run this truck stop conference.”
2. Utah football crashed and burned and BYU football far exceeded expectations this season. A come from behind last second win at RES plus an embarrassing tirade by their AD and coach were the cherry on top.
3. Basketball recruiting: we stole a starter from their team and have landed 5 of our top 10 recruits all time. And then the AJ bombshell. Meanwhile Utah is expected to be in the Big 12 basketball cellar for the foreseeable future.
4. More information coming to light about BYUs NIL capabilities being far superior to theirs. Which becomes even more apparent when we steal their expected starting tight end and defensive lineman.
I could go on and on (XC national championships, actual game attendance, perception from our conference mates, BYU’s new medical school, etc.) Really all Utah ever had over us was football. And that was only for a very brief time. We took back basketball during the Dave Rose era. And besides football and basketball, we always have had everything else, sans gymnastics.
And now that we are on an even financial playing field from a conference standpoint and our alumni base’s potential is starting to be unlocked, they realize they have nothing. And they’re coming to terms with that by throwing a hissy fit like a 2 year old. The “Golden Age” for Utah is over. They’ve had a bad couple of months.
