As an ophthalmologist, the first thing we are taught to suspect if a "stye" is
slow to heal or looks abnormal is sebaceous cell carcinoma. Do you know if she was seeing an ophthalmologist or an optometrist? The training between these two types of eye doctors is different.

If it was an ophthalmologist, they should have referred to oculoplastics eariler. I'm pretty quick to send eyelid issues.
