Hahah, yup. Nissan's problems are engine and cooling (strawberry milkshake of death), a reputational death knell that
they can ask Land Rover how easy it is to rebound from. Maybe all those issues have been fixed? Hopefully, but it takes years and years to come back from that reputational hit.
As for their lineup, they have a LOT going for them, it's way better than Honda's. They have the same boring sedan and CUV lineup that Honda does that actually sells cars, but then they actually have real cars that bring people to the dealership:
Nissan Z.
Nissan Frontier
Nissan Armada
Nissan GTR (which is actually a real halo car in the traditional sense)
The irony is the millions spent on selling us the Honda Passport as an "Adventure Vehicle" could be spent throwing 17" wheels on an Armada and throwing in the Patrol's center diff and rear diff lock and you are done. An actual REAL adventure vehicle, already in the lineup that doesn't need all the "smoke and mirrors" and "buzzwords" to try to sell people on Instagram. The Frontier FX4 is already there as far as adventure trucks are concerned.
If I was CEO, I'd commission Eaton to supply front lockers to the Frontier to give you a leg up on Tacoma, especially if you can beat their price point with a front locker.
Honda has the reputation, but Nissan has by far the better lineup.
