My 18 month old daughter only slept while being held for the first month. For another few months most naps were taken with her being held. It really can be very hard to get them into the bassinet without them waking up. Some people seem to swear by the Snoo, but I wasn't willing to buy it. I spent a lot of time bouncing on an exercise ball to get her to sleep.
