I'm putting out Coastal Carolina as an example of the crap BYU had to do as an independent to be given credit by the..
national media. IRC the reason BYU went to CC on short notice was because BYU's season wasn't strong enough in 2020 ( even though that was outside BYU's control. BYU played CC to try and provide BYU more credibility. If they had been in a conference like Utah that would've been un-needed.
The Utes never had to do anything similar. They enjoyed sitting back in a "P5" conference in the PAC12 and enjoyed credit for just being in a P5 conference.
