Lavell was successful because he hired great assistants who instilled toughness
and accountability. Guys like French and Chow demanded excellence. Kalani has struggled to hire the right assistants, and has allowed poorly performing assistants like Tuiaki and Funk to stick around for too long. He has finally managed to get the right staff together and we have seen dramatic improvements with the defense and the Oline. The improvement in those two units, along with the improvement of Retzlaff are the reasons we are 8-0 this season.
