Mission of the university. I don’t know that it’s very far out of line but it just is a bit odd compared to the normal sphere of BYU athletics. I think it’s also interesting that the biggest face representing BYU would have no connection to the church. He’d be the next Jimmer, Taysom, Ty Detmer, Danny Ainge, Steve Young etc. I know there are other great players that have done a lot for byu that aren’t members, but for a kid of this caliber and potential longevity at the next level, it’s a bit of a risk to say, “ok kid, we will pay you 10 M to represent this university for the rest of your life.”
