So it's easy to see people nervous about the game slipping away wondering why we are turning to a typically lower productivity play on an afternoon with empirical low productivity by BYU's backup backs against Baylor's 2nd half defense being the play call on 3rd and 7. I think with the exception of one 14 yard run, the average run was between 1-2 yards total all half for us.
It feels rare to see other teams in college or the NFL do that in a 3rd and 7 situation within that context. That's where you're crossing the line between competent coaching and Madden 101 in terms of likely first down outcomes.
To then have a missed field goal (hey, it happens) it rubs some lemon juice in the wound and fans are left with a feeling that maybe we should have been....more aggressive.
Understandable that a lot of other series were undercut by bad officiating and then Retzlaff's 2 INTs.
