Dead on. I've found networking is surprisingly worthless.
I love to connect with others and share perspectives, advice, even connect them to others who work in the same field. Pretty funny though how ineffective it is if I am reaching out to someone else. Crickets. I'm talking about basic advice- would you give me your perspective on your role, company, feedback on my resume etc. Seems like the only effective networking I have done is to call and leave a voicemail for family friends. Those almost always call back. LinkedIn is a straw man for networking but good for applying to jobs now. I've never gotten a job through networking but I have gotten some good advice. Again, by calling people up.

On the MBA, my experience has been very different than most on here. Every job I have had since getting my MBA I would not have gotten without it. I got it from a nothing special but well respected school in the Midwest. Not a big name at all and I don't live in the Midwest anymore. Experience trumps education every time but it is still short sighted to think that education in general doesn't matter. It opens doors. In some jobs and industries a masters is basically the equivalent of what a bachelors used to be in the 80s-90s.
