Two things can be true at once
1. You can be very happy we got the win vs SMU. This win was absolutely critical for our bowl eligibility hopes. It was a P4 game on the road... we'll happily take that W.

2. You can also walk away from that game extremely nervous about how the rest of the season will play out, particularly in conference play. We have significant issues on offense.

Seems like CB falls into one camp or the other but the reality is that you can have one foot in both camps.

What are the concerns on offense?

1. We had NINE 3 and outs. Simply put, we could not move the ball for the vast majority of the game. Why? QB decision making and accuracy issues, poor run game, sub par O line play, wide open players being missed, poor play calling...plenty of reasons that can be debated.

2. 2-13 3rd down conversion rate. Related to #1, but still highly embarrassing.

3. There's a substantial drop off in RB quality between RB1 and RB2. As soon as LJ goes out of the game, our run game is simply not a threat and we become one dimensional and that's when we look awful.

4. Our big time play makers were not involved. Austin Collie was fired up about this and I couldn't agree more. ARod needs to figure out how to get the ball into his playmakers hands. A combined 4 receptions for Lassiter and Roberts is a travesty.

5. Our starting QB was responsible for 3 turnovers. And it's not a fluke...it's his track record. I'm sure it guts him when it happens but this has been an issue going back to his JC days. We're not going to be able to win games in conference play with a turnover happy QB. I really hope they can coach this out of him (but if it hasn't already happened by this point...😬)

LOOKING FORWARD:
Who's the most important player for us moving forward?? Jake Retzlaff? GBo? Nope...it's LJ Martin. When he's in the game we have a legitimate run threat that has to be respected. Not only that but we can almost always count on him for 4-5 yards, turning 3rd and 10s into 3rd and manageable. Unfortunately he's injured for who knows how long.

I think we all need to accept that whoever our QB is will be a game manager. Hit the open guy, make the right RPO reads, and don't turn the ball over. I frankly don't care if it's Retzlaff or GBo. I'm not expecting amazing QB play to carry our team this year...I just want them to not be the clear reason we lose.
