when I picked it up. We rented a car in downtown Seattle a few weeks ago. We went with Avis and it was super sketchy, which surprised me. There was only one employee and he didn’t do a walk-through with me, which also surprised me. I noticed a crack in the windshield, small damage to the trunk, and some scratches on the side. I decided to take a video of the damage.
That was nearly 3 weeks ago, and they just emailed to let me know they had to replace the windshield and I would be charged $400.
I called immediately and was told that I’d have to pay as it was broken when I returned it. I told them I had video evidence that they had given it to me broken, and I’d be happy to send it to them. They put me on hold for a few minutes and then offered to split the amount with me, 50/50. I laughed and told them I wouldn’t be paying a penny and where to send the video. Back on hold for a few minutes and then offered to remove the charge as a “one time courtesy.”
I’m really grateful Avis was courteous and didn’t make me pay for something I didn’t break.
Anyway, I’ll be taking pictures of every side of every car rental I do going forward. I imagine I wouldn’t have had much of a leg to stand on without it.
