It can be done and many study how to maximize points without spending a lot of
money.
I run my business through the CCs so that increases my points beyond what I would do if I didn't have that option. Yet, there are pros who play the points game and are able to travel for very little.
A friend of ours maximizes it through the rolling use of 13 credit cards. I just find it too exhausting to keep track and rely upon renewals, an occasional switch, and then business spending to earn a lot of points in order to travel for pleasure less expensively.
