Many people just go overboard and pay for the $200 upgrade per flight, $500 extra on the cruise ship room, excursions booked with the cruise line, or the all inclusive places. That is perfect for some people but means nothing to me as far as travel goes. I travel to see places and experience things. Some people just want to relax and sit on the same beach for a week.

Having lots of business credit card points helps with airfare. My biggest advantage is exchanging homes. I realize that isn't for everyone but my house helps pay for our trips. We have stayed at very nice places in Mexico, Hawaii, Florida, West Virginia, California, Canada. And it cost me nothing outside of an annual membership of $220.

My wife and I just did 8 days in Hawaii at the last minute and it cost $800. Just sent my son to Ecuador for 21 days and is cost $600.
