Yes it's normal to ask family, friends. IMO Church should be the last resort
If someone doesn't have family, friends or can't afford to hire movers, then I think it's fine to reach out and ask for help.

A pet peeve of mine though is waiting until the last minute or day of. Too many do that. I get moving sucks. Nobody likes moving. We still have a lot of new move ins coming into our ward with the new builds and there's been a few families that are already acting bitter because they didn't get enough of the help they requested. They of course refuse to take any accountability because 2 of them literally waited to ask for help until they pulled the truck into the driveway. ONe of the moms of the family chewed out our EQ Pres because no one showed up. Yeah...that's what'll happen when you ask during the middle of weekday when everyone is at work.

Also, I'm old. It's too tough on me.
