If you have the means to hire a crew, do it.
If you can't afford it, try to do as much reasonable stuff yourself as you can. It's fine to ask for help moving your heavy stuff that you can't get yourself, or you can't afford to hire people.

Do you think it’s standard to ask family / friends / church members

If all I had was Ikea and Target furniture and belongings, I'd ask the ward. But

Honestly, you do get to know a lot about people by moving their stuff

How many people in the ward have you helped move?

Nope. If you can afford movers, like most people can, you should do it, or do it

Even if you're cheap like me, rent a Uhaul, pack everything up yourself over

Yes it's normal to ask family, friends. IMO Church should be the last resort

I think it's more common to hire movers

Asking church members to help should be for the disabled, elderly, or very less
