IMO there are positives and negatives with every human. Get close enough and
you’ll see some negatives. I tell all my kids as they start a mission that mission presidents are their leaders and they should be respected. They also aren’t perfect and if my kids end up knowing them well, they’ll see that. So don’t become disillusioned.

I’m not saying Mark Pope is or was a mission president. Just that he’s a human. With pros and cons. I’m sure he rubbed some people wrong. And made a big positive difference for others.

He’s the first BYU basketball coach that clearly pushed more than one or two players along when he felt he could recruit better players to replace them. Maybe it just seems that way because our access to information has gone up though.

I don’t like hard working, good guys to be shown the door. Sadly, I don’t know how that can be avoided in modern college basketball though.
