Sometimes its not the direct manager. I'm very lenient on my employees but I
still have my management come down on me about it. I let my employees go get haircuts, run simple errands, stull like that, all the time and its never been a problem for me. Other departments see it and get mad since they have bad managers. Our billing department has their managers watching security cameras to see if people are taking longer than an hour for lunch (im even talking 5 minutes over). I used to take my employees out to lunch on their birthdays but then another department got mad and said it was frustrating having the entire IT department gone, even though our office all takes its lunch at noon. We still have some people who think that working through their lunch is going to catch the eye of the C levels, and it just happens that those same employees are all idiots who can't figure out basic tasks on their computer and cant live for a single hour without nagging my department about stupid stuff they lied about on their resume.
