If he came looking for me to investigate the closet I would have had my wife tell him I was out looking for him and we were alone in the house. Then I would have instructed my wife to come check out the closet and I would have grabbed her and pulled her screaming into the closet while my son peed his pants.

I may throw in some feral sounding growls as I attacked my wife. You know really creepy almost demonic noises. Then we would have both laughed at him, told him to stop being a tool, gone to bed, and woke him up at 7am the next morning. I don’t know if it would correct his behavior but it would make me feel better.

If he snuck out again I would just start making his personal items disappear. One night it is his favorite shirt, then air pods, then an electronic device. If kids can up and vanish in the middle of the night so can personal items. Two can play this game.
