I coach a lot of kids rec-league sports, and I somewhat agree with OP
I’m all for having kids play if they exhibit ANY interest in learning how to play or are willing to try at all.
However, if a kid just doesn’t give a rip about the sport, the game, or his team and only play because Mom thought Junior needed to get out of the house occasionally, those kids often make it really hard for the coach and the other players who DO care.

I've seen kids absolutely sick at a sport at 7 or 9 who then blossomed into an all star a few years later. You miss all
