Which generation "kept their commitments"?
Transfers have happened for decades. The Ole Ball Coach complained about QBs transferring back in the 80s or early 90s. It's easier now, so they do it more, but I don't think the kids have changed. Aristotle complained about the younger generation hundreds of years BC:

“[Young people] are high-minded because they have not yet been humbled by life, nor have they experienced the force of circumstances.

They think they know everything, and are always quite sure about it.”

The new generation isn't any worse, they just have more chances to do what's always been done.
