Grateful dead deserves serious consideration in the top four. Jam band goats and
the way they revolutionized the live shows/ festivals is very significant.
I would also add Earth Wind and Fire and even Jackson 5 as being contenders. As well as the Carter family as a possible founding father type band.
My list would be:
Carter Family, Beach Boys, Grateful Dead, Earth Wind and Fire (or The Temptations)
