what model? its sometimes easier (and cheaper) to just replace the carburetor..
They are normally ~$20 on Amazon.. and most of the time it's as simple as removing 2 or 3 bolts.

Checked the gas cap? I've had my gas caps go bad twice and cause vapor lock. What you said is the symptom.
