One reason that I’m glad my son is going somewhere else. I get to keep my BYU fandom and not come to hate BYU fans and CB over stuff they’d post about my son. If my son went to BYU I would have to leave CB I think. Plus I think with my son at a school other than BYU, and doesn’t have BYU on the schedule while he is there, that a lot of CBers will take an interest in how he does knowing who he is and since they won’t have school fandom mixed up in it will probably have a good time watching him and supporting him other than if they do wind up playing BYU somehow, and that would be ok because I get that they are BYU fans first.

I’ve come to realize that having your son play at the school you’ve always been a fan of would not necessarily be the best thing in a lot of ways. I know several guys here on CB who have kids playing football at BYU, CBers might be surprised how many of them there are and which posters they are, and I have had to cringe a few times seeing the comments posted about their sons. I get it, people are fans of the school and as such they think in terms of the team and what they want for the team so individuals are expendable and open for criticism, fair and unfair. But when you are a fan of the school, and your kid plays there, it changes things.
