The fact that
1) You weren't on their radar before tryouts never helps.

2) BYU typically doesn't have a whole lot of need for walk-on WRs as that is a position that they typically recruit more than enough of doesn't help either.

3) Unless you are an AMAZING athlete with fast 40 times, or freakish size/strength, or can do ANYTHING to catch the coaches' attention, they likely won't take a chance on you. Being a scout team guy (which is what you would be) they looks for guys who are either physically able or very smart students of the game and know it inside and out, you don't stand much of a chance. And yes, having a name sure helps as well.


It is an uphill battle and there are very few true walk-on success stories. Most walk-ons that you see playing are 'preferred walk-ons', guys who there wasn't enough schollies available but who they are certainly interested in.

Good luck on your attempt post-mission. It's an uphill battle, but it's not impossible.
