List of LDS Head coaching candidates for BYU:
I posted this a couple of days ago, but I'm reposting it for those who didn't get to see it. Like many of you, I agree it's time for a regime change in Provo. Since the head coach at BYU has to be LDS, I've come up with a list of potential candidates who fit this criteria and might be able to coach at the Y.
This is just off the top of my head. If someone can think of any more, please let me know.

Andy Reid: This is obviously everyone's favorite choice. However, right now, he's the toast of the town in KC. He's turned the Chiefs around and they will probably make the playoffs. They may even compete for a division title. Reid has been on record as saying that if he did coach in college, it would be at BYU. Don't see it happening though. Reid is too good of an NFL coach to ever wind up coaching in college.

Kalani Sitake: No head coaching experience, but he is a good defensive coordinator. This might be the most realistic option actually. If only we can lure him away from Utah.

Ty Detmer: No head coaching experience at the D1 level. I'd prefer to bring him on as the quarterbacks coach. He also likes living in Texas. I'm not sure he wants to move to Utah.

Darrell Bevelle: He's the Seahawks offensive coordinator. Seattle is a Super Bowl contender and might even be the best team in the NFL. He's probably in line to get an NFL head coaching gig. Highly unlikely he comes to BYU.

Dave Campo: He was a disaster as the Cowboys head coach. I think they went 5-11 every year he was there. I'm not sure this is a good option. I don't even know what he's doing these days.

Ken Niumatalolo: He's the Navy head coach. As far as I know, Navy has had decent success under him, but they're nothing special. I'm not sure this is the right answer either.

Mike Leach: I'm not even sure he's active LDS. He has a very good offensive mind though.

Kyle Whittingham: This might be the longest shot of all. I suppose if Utah fires Kyle Whittingham, there's a possibility he might consider BYU, but I think that bridge has been permanently burned. I don't think BYU fans would accept him after all the damage that's been done in the rivalry. He's shown a lot of disdain for BYU in the last few years. Then again, money talks and BYU is and always will be his alma mater. That might still be a factor.

Steve Young: This one is almost laughable. I've heard a lot of fans mention him as a possible replacement for Bronco. I love Steve Young, don't get wrong. He just has zero coaching experience. He has a cushy gig right now as an NFL analyst on ESPN. He seems content with that. Also, I've heard his wife doesn't want to live in Utah. She prefers to stay in California. It would be a very popular choice with the fans, and it would be a huge boost to recruiting.

Norm Chow: This would be a lousy choice. He's not a good HC, and I think he hates BYU more than Whittingham does right now. Also, he's 67 years old.

That's all I've got for now. Unless we can persuade an 83 year old Lavell to come out of retirement. Which would probably prove disastrous. And no, Robert Anae is a terrible option. Absolutely terrible.

Maybe we should start looking at candidates for conversion. 3 options. (Memmo, Sep 24, 2013 at 5:55pm)
