It seems this is true. They are so rarely a weapon, even when we consistently
get seemingly talented TE's in recruitment. Almost every year we seem to have a 4* TE out of HS, and they are often the highest star recruit in our class. Yet, we have VERY FEW big plays every year to TE's any more, when that used to be a staple for BYU - Gordon Hudson, Clay Brown, David Mills (1984), Trevor Molini, Chris Smith, Byron Rex, Itula Mili, Doug Jolley, Johnny Harline, Andrew George, Chad Lewis, Dennis Pitta.

I mean the list is huge, and many of them had multiple iconic plays that are part of BYU lore. Many of them also went on to the NFL, and starred. Besides QB's, TE may be the position most represented by BYU in the NFL.

But despite all that, they seem to be either and afterthought, or just a warm body to help protect the QB anymore. That is sad for such a tradition rich position on the team that practically invented the forward pass, and owned the TE position for many years.
